It has been said that, "the Phantom Regiment sound is Jim Wren." Jim marched with the original Phantom Regiment and then, after the corps was forced to fold because of a fire, he was instrumental in reorganizing the corps. Since then, he was the music arranger for the Phantom for 26 years. He was a member of the Regiment board of directors for 18 years.
