2010 Friends of DCI Scholarship FAQs

When are applications due?
Applications, letters of recommendation and proof of enrollment are all due Monday, May 3, 2010. Applications must be submitted online. Proof of enrollment and letters of recommendation may be mailed, faxed or e-mailed to Drum Corps International. All letters of recommendation and proof of enrollment must be submitted at the same time prior to the deadline.

Who is eligible to apply for the Friends of DCI Scholarship?
Applicants must be a current member in good standing of an Open or World Class corps competing in the 2010 Drum Corps International Tour. Applicants must also be enrolled in higher education courses this fall and have completed all scholarship material requirements by Monday, May 3, 2010.

How many scholarships will be awarded and in what amount?
This summer, the Friends of DCI will award up to three academic scholarships of $2,000 each to corps members participating in the 2010 Drum Corps International Tour.

Do I have to be enrolled in a music program to apply?
No, any major or academic program is eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Who receives the funds?
Funds will be distributed directly to the individual's educational institution. The school will then determine how to apply the funding toward the student's tuition and fees.

Can I apply if I am currently a graduating college senior?
Only if you are continuing your academic career for an additional degree and will be enrolled at an educational institution in the fall of 2010.

Am I able to apply every year the scholarship is offered?
If you meet all other requirements, you may apply more than one year, even if you were awarded the scholarship previously.

I was in a corps last year, but cannot march this summer, can I still apply?
No, this year's scholarship is limited to those students who are current members of an Open or World Class corps competing in the 2010 Drum Corps International Tour.

My parents/relatives are members of the Friends of DCI, can I still apply?
Yes, all entries will be made anonymous prior to the judging by the Friends of DCI panel. The Friends of DCI will also be carefully screened for any conflicts of interest prior to joining the selection committee.

How do I acquire proof of enrollment from my college or university?
Most colleges and universities have an Office of the Registrar on campus and/or online that can provide standard proof of enrollment.

How are the entries judged?
Applications will be reviewed by a panel consisting of Friends of DCI members.

When will the winners be announced?
The winners of the Friends of DCI Scholarships will receive notification while on tour this summer. Recipients will be recognized at the 2010 DCI World Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.

How are funds for this scholarship raised?
Friends of DCI members and other fans contribute to the overall funding of Drum Corps International each year. Any specified gifts received are added toward scholarship funds.
