These exceptional opportunities will provide motivated candidates with outstanding real-world experience in a variety of exciting disciplines. Interns will work side-by-side with an experienced group of dedicated professionals in a fast-paced, dynamic and fun setting which celebrates the achievement of excellence in the performing arts and in life.

Dates: Summer session positions are from May to mid August 2012 (start and end dates for both sessions are flexible based on schedule).

Location: Internships are based at the Drum Corps International corporate headquarters in downtown Indianapolis, Ind.

Requirements: Minimum one year of college coursework or related experience, or as otherwise noted on individual positions.

Hours: Summer session internships are full-time (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) and may include substantial weekend hours while traveling to and working at DCI events and the World Championships.

Supervision: Interns will report to assigned supervisors who are a part of the Drum Corps International professional staff. Interns will have the opportunity to interact with and be mentored by senior-level staff members. Periodic evaluations of intern performance will be made by their supervisors in addition to an exit interview which is conducted at the end of the specified internship period.

Compensation: Internships offer tremendous experience in a variety of areas of interest to prospective candidates. Summer interns will receive an expense per-diem of $150 weekly. Depending on the position, interns may have the opportunity to travel and be involved extensively with off-site Drum Corps International events and the annual World Championships, during which travel and related expenses will be covered.

Special Project Event Management Intern
Drum Corps International announces a unique internship opportunity for an exceptional candidate with a background and interest in arts administration, music education and/or event management.

A special project grant recently awarded to DCI for the summer of 2012 has created the remarkable internship opportunity for an individual who is self-motivated, well-spoken and who possesses excellent event planning and management skills. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully manage a variety of tasks with strict deadlines.

This internship will provide an excellent and substantial addition to a portfolio for a college student seeking career experience in the above-listed fields.

DCI is poised to move quickly through the interviewing and selection phases and the intern can begin project work as soon as possible, even while completing spring semester coursework, if suitable. Early May relocation to our Indianapolis office is required.

Information Technology Intern
Assists Drum Corps International’s IT and Web development teams utilizing a variety of technologies from credit card machines to backend video platforms, e-mail to SQL, online media to offline data management, and more. Intern will have the opportunity to hone troubleshooting skills while problem-solving and creating more efficient ways of conducting business.  Candidates should be familiar with Windows and Mac operating systems, possess strong technical abilities, be able to work in changing fast-paced environments, and have a positive attitude. Intern will gain an understanding of how to run media platforms and maintain the needs of an internal IT department.  Media experience, including online video and audio is not required, but recommended. 




Fall & Winter Session Internships — September through December, 2012 & January through April, 2013

Ticketing Operations and Sales Intern
Intern will have the opportunity to develop skills related to event ticket sales, box office management and related operational procedures. Applicants should be self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines on a daily basis. Hands-on experience will include event set-up through ticketing software, communicating with contracted event liaisons, processing phone orders, providing customer service, printing and distributing tickets, and other related operational tasks.

Event Operations Intern
Intern will assist the Drum Corps International event operations team with event-related logistical tasks including scheduling, securing venue services and supplies, conducting hotel site visits, recruitment and management of volunteers, and stadium logistics planning in Drum Corps International event venues including the new Lucas Oil Stadium. Ideal candidate will have a background and interest in the event management and/or hospitality industry and be self-motivated to successfully manage multiple projects with strict deadlines. Intern will have the opportunity to gain substantial, world-class event planning experience, with the option to work at the DCI World Championships in August.

Marketing and Communications Intern
Intern will have the opportunity to hone real-world marketing skills across multiple disciplines including public relations, advertising, journalism, and graphic design. Applicants should be energetic individuals who take initiative, pay great attention to detail, enjoy a sense of humor, and are not afraid to ask for direction while handling several assignments at one time. Intern should be enrolled in a course of study or program related to communications or marketing with career aspirations of working in those fields. Responsibilities may include assisting with copy writing and design of print and Web projects, researching and responding to media inquiries, compiling news clippings, and working with computer design software and other multimedia. Fundamental photography and/or video editing skills are a plus.

Drum Corps International, Inc. (DCI) has operated for 40 years as a non-profit sanctioning association and event promotions organization focused on servicing the world's most elite and exclusive marching musical organizations – commonly known as competitive drum and bugle corps. The worldwide popularity and influence of Drum Corps International and its member organizations continues to grow.

As a youth activity, the world of competitive drum and bugle corps is an intense, choreographed musical experience staged on football stadium fields by students achieving high levels of excellence in performance. Drum Corps International contracts more than 100 tour events throughout North America and directly produces its series of Premier Events as part of an eight-week, summer-long tour culminating with the annual World Championships in August. The performers engaged in the drum and bugle corps experience are both musicians and athletes, and their performances rival the levels of excellence achieved by Olympians. Through their achievements in marching music, Drum Corps International participants are considered to be "the standard of excellence" for high school and college marching bands throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and South Africa.

Overall event-wide attendance exceeds 360,000 audience members each year. The Drum Corps International World Championships have enjoyed 30 years of television broadcasts with estimated viewing audiences of more than one million people each year.
