Recap Roundup: Open Class World Championship Finals
The Drum Corps International Open Class World Championship Finals on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, featured the top 12 corps from Monday night’s Prelims in competition, joined by the Blue Saints and Les Stentors in exhibition.
The competing corps returned to the welcoming confines of Ames Field in Michigan City, Ind. – the fifth time Open Class Championship events have been held in the Northwest Indiana locale.
In the caption awards, Best Percussion was won by Blue Devils B, Best Color Guard went to Spartans, and Oregon Crusaders took Best Brass Performance, Best Visual Performance and Best General Effect.
When looking at the recap, scores of the Visual Effect and Music Effect captions are counted for full value, but the scores of the three Visual and three Music captions are divided in half before being added to the final score, since each of those six judges scores on a scale up to 20.0 max.
All Open Class corps now head to Indianapolis, where they will compete head to head with all the World Class corps at the DCI World Championship Prelims on Thursday. Those corps that place among the top-25 will compete on Friday at the Semifinals.
