Genesis announced a new partnership with Vic Firth to perform with the company’s percussion sticks and mallets. "With our percussion program on the rise, our staff felt that this was a great move to secure our growth and expand our level of performance," Genesis Executive Director Chris Magonigal said.
Glassmen head chefs Carol Dewan and Tina Jameson are collecting recipes to feature in a new drum corps cookbook. Recipes will be presented in family-sized portions in addition to larger drum corps-sizes intended to feed 200 people. “We have had so many members and staff ask us for recipes that we decided the time was right for a cookbook," said Dewan. "With the corps inactive this year, we have the time to devote to this project, and of course, the fact that it is a fundraiser is a bonus." Having collected 275 recipes so far, their goal is to have a total of 300 in the book from corps across the country. Drum corps are asked to e-mail their favorite summer tour recipes to cdewan AT neo.rr.com by January 29 to be included.
It’s not too late to join Gold! The corps will hold open auditions from now into the spring until spots in all of its sections are filled.
Impulse will host its next round of auditions on Sunday, Jan. 27 at Marina High School in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Legends has multiple positions in its brass, percussion and color guard sections still available. If interested in joining the corps, the brass and percussion will next rehearse Feb. 22-24 in Kalamazoo, Mich. Color guard auditions will take place April 26-28.
Music City hosted a successful rehearsal camp Jan. 18-20. The corps reports that 81 brass, 49 percussion and 13 prospective drum majors attended. Check out a photo gallery from the weekend on the corps’ website.
Pacific Crest recently named the students who will make up the corps’ 2013 brass leadership team. “The brass section has a great mix of proven leaders and equally talented veteran performers who are looking to contribute even more to the success of 2013,” said Leadership Coordinator Adrian Rivas.
The Phantom Regiment family mourns the passing of Helen Haddad who was the wife of corps founder Alex Haddad. The couple has two daughters who were members of the corps.
Pioneer will host its February rehearsal camp the ninth through the 10th at Patrick Henry High School in Glade Spring, Va.
Racine Scouts’ next rehearsal camp will take place the weekend of Feb. 8 in Cudahy, Wis.

Santa Clara Vanguard has an employment opportunity. The individual in the newly created position of alumni relations/development manager “will drive the planning and organizing of activities in support of communication to current alumni and donors.” Applications will be accepted through Feb. 14.

Spirit of Atlanta needs a new food truck to feed its corps members this summer. The organization is currently seeking contributions in an effort to receive matching financial gifts and in-kind donations to get the new mobile foodservice trailer built.
