The Academy is calling for entries in a new T-shirt design contest. Anyone is eligible to enter, and designs must be music, drum corps or marching band related. Winners will be announced in May. View the complete contest guidelines on the corps’ Web site.

Bluecoats

The Bluecoats are now accepting nominations for their Hall of Fame. Established in 1989, the Bluecoats’ Hall is made up of nearly 30 members who have made outstanding contributions to the corps. Nominations are due April 1.
Boston Crusaders

The Boston Crusaders will be recognized for 70 years representing the state of Massachusetts during the Massachusetts Drum Corps and Music Educators Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, April 24 in Dorchester.
The Cadets

The Cadets

The Cadets are now accepting nominations for the corps’ 2010 class of Hall of Fame members. More than 30 members strong, the Cadets Hall of Fame is made up “dedicated individuals who gave their heart and soul to the organization, and their contributions to the corps, and the activity, have had a profound impact in carrying on the legacy of the Cadets.” Nominations will be taken through April 11 and inductees will be announced on June 18.

Carolina Crown has launched a new feature called “GraceNOTES,” a blog written by second-year front ensemble member Grace Welter. In her introductory post, Welter discusses her life outside of the drum corps as well as what fans can expect from the blog once she’s on tour with the corps this summer.

The Cascades launched a new fundraising campaign to replace the corps’ aging brass instruments for the 2010 drum corps season.

The Crossmen’s February rehearsal camp brought members of the brass and percussion sections together at Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio as they continued to work through the corps’ 2010 program, “Full Circle.” “We are pleased with the progress and content of the design as well as the feedback that we are getting from the corps and staff,” said Crossmen Director Mark Chambers. “We hope to make this show a Crossmen fan-favorite.”

The Mandarins published the latest installment of health and exercise tips from the corps’ strength and conditioning specialist Christopher DaPrato titled, “The Case for Musicians and Dancers to Exercise- VO2.”

The second edition of Pacific Crest’s “Pipeline,” features an interview with drill designer and marching instructor Steven Estudillo about the visual design of the corps’ 2010 production, “Maze.”
Phantom Regiment

Phantom Regiment

Phantom Regiment members can now apply for the Diane Thompson-Wells Memorial Scholarship, an award created in memory of the corps’ longtime supporter and board of directors member. Given out annually, the $1,500 scholarship is available for current Regiment college students who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Spirit brass ensemble performed at the end of January as part of the Georgia Music Educators Association 2010 In-Service Conference. Staff members Mark Waymire, Dr. Todd Snead and Andy Putnam presented a brass pedagogy clinic to teachers, alumni and fans in attendance. “We are honored to have been invited to share our approach to brass performance with GMEA members and look forward to a long-lasting partnership between our organization and the music education community of Georgia and the greater Southeast region,” said Spirit Executive Director Joel Vincent.
