The Blue Devils will gather to celebrate the end of 2013 at its annual awards banquet on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Concord, Calif. Hilton.

Blue Devils B will host its own season-ending awards banquet in Concord, Calif. with a lunch and program on Sunday, Nov. 17.

The Bluecoats organization will host its annual business meeting and board of directors election on Sunday, Dec. 8 in North Canton, Ohio.

The Boston Crusaders will have representatives at the Bands of America regional competition this weekend in Atlanta to meet with fans and prospective members about the corps’ 2014 summer season.

The Colts have made it to the final round of the Make My Non-Profit Run Better contest presented by RK Dixon/Premier. A second round of voting will take place from Nov. 1 to 8, during which you can help the corps come closer to winning a $15,000 technology makeover.

DCI Hall of Fame member Frank Williams and Dennis Laorenza are two of the newest additions to the Crossmen brass staff. “We are extremely excited and privileged to have these two guys in our corner for the 2014 season,” Caption Head Anthony Cruddas said.

Genesis has plans to launch a new indoor percussion ensemble called Teatro.

Jersey Surf

Jersey Surf announced this week that the corps will embark on its longest summer tour to date in 2014 including a number of early-season Midwestern events and its first-ever stop at the Drum Corps International regional event in Minneapolis. “It will be unusual for us to not have many performances on the East Coast until the end of the summer,” Executive Director Bob Jacobs said. “The change of scenery will be a great thing for the organization and will make our return even more special for our members and alumni when the tour brings us back to our regular stomping grounds late in the season when we’re at our very best.”

Auditions for the Legends indoor percussion ensemble will take place Nov. 3 and Nov. 17 in the Kalamazoo, Mich. area.

With 75 days left in the year, this week the Madison Scouts launched an end-of-year fundraising campaign that the organization is dubbing, Madison Corps 75. “One of our goals for the year was to reconnect with our alumni at a whole new level,” Executive Director Chris Komnick said. “Coming off of the 75th anniversary celebration in September, we want to capitalize on that momentum and build unprecedented support for the organization from the roots up.” The campaign will have a board match of up to $10,000 and other incentives for donors.

Oregon Crusaders announced additions to its instructional staff including Ian Flint as visual caption supervisor and Dr. Christopher Whyte as front ensemble arranger and caption supervisor.

Pacific Crest announced new and returning members of its brass instructional staff. The 2014 Pacific Crest Brass program includes an amazing group of music educators,” Caption Head Seth Murphy said. “Each of the members of the staff brings a wealth of drum corps experience, music education knowledge and a motivation to be one of the best brass programs in the country.”

In an act of corps helping corps, this week the Madison Scouts donated the corps’ old kitchen semi-trailer to the Pioneer organization. “Our head cook, Mrs. Margo Bauer, is so excited about this that she has come down from Port Huron, Mich. and has already been putting many hours of cleaning, planning and preparing for the use of this food trailer for our 2014 season!” Director Roman Blenski wrote in a thank you letter posted to the corps’ website.

Santa Clara Vanguard announced the addition of Al Yeh and Charles Frost to the organization’s full-time administrative staff. “We’re excited to have Al and Charles join our office staff, as their talents and skills will boost the efforts of the rest of our team, as we work to elevate the experience of every member, volunteer and staff member in each of our programs,” CEO Jeff Fiedler said.

The Thunder family is mourning the loss of corps alum Rebecca Harvey who was killed in a car accident in Washington this week. Harvey is the daughter of former Thunder corps director Rich Harvey.
