Internship Overview:

These exceptional opportunities will provide motivated candidates with outstanding real-world experience in a variety of exciting disciplines. Interns will work side-by-side with an experienced group of dedicated professionals in a fast-paced, dynamic and fun setting which celebrates the achievement of excellence in the performing arts and in life. Drum Corps International is Marching Music's Major League?„?. Dates: May – August, 2007 (start and end dates flexible based on schedule). Additional internship opportunities are available throughout the year. Location: Internships are based at the Drum Corps International corporate headquarters in Addison, IL (Suburban Chicago). Requirements: Minimum one year of college coursework or related experience, or as otherwise noted on individual positions. Supervision: Interns will report to assigned supervisors who are a part of the Drum Corps International professional staff. Interns will have the opportunity to interact with and be mentored by senior-level staff members. Periodic evaluations of intern performance will be made by their supervisors in addition to an exit interview which is conducted at the end of the specified internship period. Hours: Full-time: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Substantial weekend hours while traveling to and working at Drum Corps International events and the World Championships should be expected. Compensation: Internships are unpaid, and offer tremendous experience in a variety of areas of interest to prospective candidates. Interns will have the opportunity to travel and will be involved extensively with off-site Drum Corps International events and the annual World Championships, during which periods travel and related expenses will be covered. Current internship openings: Event Operations Intern
Assists the Drum Corps International events team with details relating to the production of DCI's 15 competitive Major Events and the week-long Drum Corps International World Championships. Ideal candidate will have a background and interest in the event management and/or hospitality industry. Intern will assist professional staff in event-related tasks, both in the office -- including the ordering and scheduling of event-related items and services and organization of logistics -- and on-site, including event operations and volunteer management. Applicant must be a self-motivated, self-starter that is able to handle stressful situations while on-site and meet deadlines on a daily basis. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to gain substantial, world-class event management experience. Graphic Design Intern
Assists in the creation and preparation of print collateral materials including: advertisements, brochures, signage and point of purchase merchandising displays, in addition to Web-related graphics. Intern should have experience with graphic layout programs (QuarkXPress/Adobe InDesign) in addition to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Photography skills a plus. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world graphic design skills in a fast-paced environment and to add significant weight to his/her portfolio of published material. Journalism Intern
Develops ongoing journalistic content for Drum Corps International Web site (DCI.org) and various print publications, relating to events, participating drum corps units and their members, and other topics as assigned. Intern will have the opportunity to interview and report on high-profile people and events within the Drum Corps International realm while working under strict deadlines. Ideal candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as an interest and background in copy editing, photography and layout experience in print and Web publishing. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world journalistic skills and to add significant weight to his/her clippings file and portfolio of published material. Photography Intern
Acts as a photojournalist at and around Drum Corps International competitive events and other functions as assigned. Intern will have full media credentials and will enjoy the opportunity to work with Drum Corps International professional staff photographers. This intern will be responsible for cataloguing all images captured throughout the summer. Candidate should have a keen eye for sports-related photography and strong skills with digital SLR cameras and editing in Adobe Photoshop. Intern will be asked to produce photo galleries and audio/visual content for the high-traffic Drum Corps International Web site (DCI.org) and other print and digital medias. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world photo journalistic skills and add significant weight to his/her portfolio of published material. Public Relations Intern
Researches and responds to media inquiries and provides writing support for public and media relations outreach. Provides support to the Communications Department, including assisting promotions and events teams on an as-needed basis. Intern will assist with the compilation of the daily news clipping searches, serve in a supporting role in response to media inquiries and will provide assistance to public and media relations staff on specific events including Drum Corps International Major Events and the World Championships, among other projects. The intern may serve as a point of contact between the office staff and the staff of the company's public relations agency of record, providing related support as necessary. In addition, the intern in this position will contribute to news posted on the high-volume DCI.org internet Web site, and in other writing projects on an as-needed basis. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world public relations skills and to add significant weight to his/her clippings file and portfolio of published material. Video Production Intern
Creates and executes high-end video productions including digital effects, motion graphics and editing for Drum Corps International Internet marketing communications. Intern will be involved with creative and pre-production, lighting, editing, as well as some aspects of coordination, planning and executing video shoots. Ideal candidate will have experience with Final Cut or Adobe Premier software and will work in conjunction with other video shooters and producers as the team produces live coverage of competitive events. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world video production skills and add significant weight to his/her portfolio reel.

Drum Corps International – Corporate Overview: Drum Corps International, Inc. (DCI) has operated for 35 years as a non-profit sanctioning association and event promotions organization focused on servicing the world's most elite and exclusive marching musical organizations — commonly known as competitive drum and bugle corps. The worldwide popularity and influence of Drum Corps International and its member organizations continues to grow. As a youth activity, the world of competitive drum and bugle corps is an intense, choreographed musical experience staged on football stadium fields by students achieving high levels of excellence in performance. Through the drum and bugle corps experience, young people develop life skills including self-discipline, teamwork and leadership. Overall event-wide attendance exceeds 360,000 audience members each year. The Drum Corps International World Championships have enjoyed 30 years of television broadcasts with estimated viewing audiences of more than one million people each year.
