Drum Corps International is pleased to debut the logo for the 2007 DCI World Championships, Aug. 7-11 in Pasadena, Calif. This will be the first time in 35 years that the DCI World Championships will be held in California, a state with more actively participating drum corps than any other.
The logo is designed by Greg Marko of BrandHouse, Inc., a strategic design and branding firm specializing in packaging, identities and graphics for leading companies and brands. Prior to creating BrandHouse with his brother Geoff, Marko has had the opportunity to work with many recognizable brands from Sarah Lee, Nestle and Boston Market, to Coca-Cola and Coors, among others. Marko is a former drum corps member, staffer and current fan. He was a percussionist with the Cavaliers in 1977 and 1980, and he also served as a Blue Knights staff member from 1983-85. "My first drum corps show was the 1975 DCI Midwest finals in Whitewater, Wis. I remembered it poured rain on a couple of the first corps. Wet wool and all, the corps plowed through their shows with no one moving an inch in the stands. It was awesome, and I was hooked. But let's face it, if you're not hooked after watching the 1975 Scouts in row 10, you have no pulse!" Marko said explaining one of his fondest drum corps memories. The 2007 Championships logo is the fifth Marko has designed for DCI since 2003. "For DCI, we try to combine unique aspects of location and activity to create a dynamic and memorable identity," said Marko. "This year's logo was particularly challenging, finding that essence of California and incorporating it into a single logo. Ultimately, palm trees, TV screens and a reference to one of the nation's most famous stadiums led us to this year's southern-California-drum-corps-cool look of its own."
