We take a break from our new format (DUE TO A LACK OF E-MAIL -- COME ON PEOPLE!) to address something very strange I saw today.

Andy Dittrich
I was in my Spanish course here at the University of Illinois, and I noticed a familiar symbol on my instructor's T-shirt -- a delta shape, with a bugle in the middle of it. I looked closer, noticing that it said "Spirit of Atlanta, Member 1991." Well, I was shocked! I could not believe that this woman, from Spain, marched in Spirit of Atlanta. It's amazing how you run into people like that, right?^ So after class, I asked her about it. The conversation entailed me struggling miserably to use the Spanish language, but ended up with me finding out that she never marched! What?! Then why would she have a Spirit of Atlanta member shirt? Thrift shop, $.25, Pensacola, Fla. I am shocked that someone would donate their member shirt, something which signifies your dedication to a single activity for so many months, to a thrift shop. I imagine that now, that person may regret doing such a thing, or may have some other momento of their drum corps career. I hope that he or she does. I can't imagine selling my drum corps gear, much less giving it away. It is kind of shocking, I must say. A token of a season of drum corps, and it goes for a quarter now. The fortunate thing is, the things that you learn, and the memories you make, are not selling yet. Quote of the week: "Ow! I hurt myself with my napkin!" ~from the Gregory Drive Dining Halls Project! WRITE TO IT! Andy Dittrich is the center snare drummer for Capital Sound, and is a fifth-year member of the corps. He attends the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is studying English.
