In this photo the Spirit contra section retreats together for the last time after the 2008 World Championship Semifinals. My son Thomas is on the far left. The World Championships this year not only was my first as a fan, it was the first as a parent of a corps member.
From the area, Thomas' bedroom is less than a mile from the stadium, and he marched on the same field that I marched on for four years as a member of the Indiana University Marching Hundred. He went to Spirit a boy and came back a self-confident and motivated man (and lost 50 pounds in the process). It was a wonderful transformation and a great summer.
