Bryan Marion, Chris De Leon and Mike Benz will serve as drum majors for the Boston Crusaders during the 2003 season. Marion begins his sixth year with the Crusaders organization, taking to the podium again this year. He is currently studying psychology at Boston University. He has deep family roots with drum corps and with the Crusaders -- his parents met in the drum corps activity, and his brother Brandon also marches with the Crusaders. De Leon is studying music at Florida International University. A talented brass player, De Leon joined the Crusaders in 2000. Among many other musical accomplishments, De Leon serves as director for the Cooper City High School Jazz Band in Cooper City, Fla. Benz has also been a member of the Crusaders organization since 2000. He is currently a senior at Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Mass. Mike will serve as in-line drum major in 2003, playing lead soprano and sharing off-field responsibilities with the other drum majors. The drum majors play vital leadership roles in the on-field and off-field operations of the Crusaders' corps. Their responsibilities include off-season planning and coordination, practice camp leadership, and keeping the corps and its members running smoothly during tour. Meanwhile in the Crusaders' camp, final membership for the 2003 competitive season has been set. "We truly had the greatest amount of talent we have ever had audition for the corps," said program director Howard Weinstein. "But, most importantly, as a staff, we really looked for a positive chemistry for the membership, as the 'experience' is the most important factor we are looking for."
