For the third consecutive year the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps will hold audition camps in both Ohio and Texas. The Bluecoats are proud to have Texas as their second home. Three years ago the corps began to conduct auditions and winter rehearsals in Texas (on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23 and 24, in Cedar Park, Texas [near Austin], from 11 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday at Cedar Park High School) in addition to those held on Ohio (on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, in Canton, Ohio, at Stearn Community Center from noon Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday). This past season over 50 members of the corps were from Texas. When asked, "Why Texas?" Corps Director Bill Hamilton said, "We always have had a few members from Texas, and we were continually impressed with both their talent and dedication. However traveling to Ohio each month over the winter was difficult and expensive for our members, so we challenged ourselves to solve that problem."The solution came from the support of Cedar Park High School (just north of Austin) and for the past three years the corps has had a second home. As a result of this solution, continuous travel for members from Texas to Ohio is not required, thereby making the drum and bugle corps experience more convenient and affordable.Complete information about these two audition locations can be found at the corps' Web site: www.bluecoats.com.
