Dr. Michael C. Robinson has accepted the role of brass caption head for the Boston Crusaders' 2003 season.Robinson recently became the Associate Director of Bands at the University of South Florida's School of Music in Tampa. Prior to joining the USF faculty, Robinson served for three years as the Director of Bands at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., where he administered all aspects of a comprehensive university band program. Robinson also served for three years as Assistant Conductor of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Chamber Winds at the University of Miami. His additional duties at UM included teaching courses in music education and conducting. Robinson also taught for 11 years in the public schools of Florida. He was formerly the Director of Bands at Pinellas Park and Seminole High Schools in Pinellas County, Fla., and Cypress Creek High School in Orange County, Fla. During Robinson's tenure in Pinellas County, his bands consistently received superior ratings at district and state festivals. At the national level, his Seminole bands were twice named finalists at the B.O.A Grand Nationals, as well as two-time Grand Champions of The B.O.A Regional in Atlanta. The Cypress Creek H.S. Band was named a Champion at the B.O.A. Orlando Regional and a runner-up at the BOA Atlanta Regional. The Seminole Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the1994 National Concert Band Festival in Chicago. Robinson has extensive experience with drum and bugle corps, having marched with the Madison Scouts from 1981 – 1984, and having served on the brass staffs of Suncoast Sound, Cadets of Bergen County, Carolina Crown and the Iowa Colts.Robinson is the recipient of numerous awards, including the "Educator of the Year" in 1993 from the Seminole Chamber of Commerce and Pinellas County "Music Teacher of the Year" in 1994 by the Pinellas County Music Teachers' Association. In addition, he was a finalist for the 1994 Pinellas Arts Council's "Arts Educator of the Year" and was listed in the 1994 and 1996 editions of "Who's Who Among Americas Teachers." Robinson holds degrees in Music Education, and a degree in conducting from the University of Miami. Robinson holds memberships in Music Educators National Conference, Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, American School Band Directors Association, College Band Directors National Association, World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, International Conductors Guild, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and the International Horn Society. Robinson is an active clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor, appearing extensively throughout the southeastern and southwestern United States. As a French horn player, Robinson has played Principal Horn in the Tampa Bay Opera Company, Florida Chamber Orchestra and the Hays Symphony. He has also appeared with the Florida Orchestra, West Palm Beach Symphony, Ft. Lauderdale Symphony, West Coast Symphony and the Houston Ballet Company.
