Submitted by the Mandarins: The Mandarins' December audition camp exceeded expectations with the largest turnout in the corps' history. A large increase was seen in the number of brass members auditioning, nearly filling all 60 spots in the brass line, with several students absent due to school performance conflicts. Brass caption head Dan Fong said: "We are not only pleased with the number of musicians expressing interest in the Mandarins, but also very pleased with the work ethic and talent exhibited throughout the line. We feel that this camp set a terrific base for our next step in the development of our brass program." In addition to auditions and reviewing basic technique exercises, the brass line also learned the 2007 production number, "Call of the Mountain," by Joseph Curiale.
