From a Boston Crusaders press release: The Boston Crusaders are pleased to announce that Dean Broadbent will be the color guard caption head for the 2005 Season. Broadbent was part of the color guard staff in 2004, and adds the title of caption head to his credit for 2005. An experienced teacher, guard designer and drill designer, Broadbent is currently an assistant director of bands, program coordinator, and director of the color guard at Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Under his direction, the color guard program at Flanagan has transformed from a novice class program to a WGI World Class guard. The Flanagan winter guard also received the bronze medal at the 2003 Winter Guard Olympics in Dayton, Ohio. The Flanagan band has placed in the top five at the Florida State Championships for the last four years, and has received superior ratings consistently at the FBA Marching Band Festival. A native of Shelton, Conn., Broadbent's drum corps resume is equally impressive. He began his career marching with the Connecticut Hurricanes from 1990 to 1992, and then joined the Cadets from 1993 to 1996. Dean's DCI teaching credits started with the Boston Crusaders in 1997, and continued with the Cadets from 1998 to 2002, including serving as caption head in 2001. In 2003, Dean served as guard caption head of the Magic of Orlando before returning to the Boston Crusaders as a designer and instructor in 2004. Broadbent has written drill for many high school bands including Shelton and Danbury High Schools in Connecticut and Flanagan High School. He has also taught many high school and WGI color guards, including Danbury High School from 1994-1998, Norwalk (Conn.) High School from 1998-2001, the 2001 St. Ann's World Bronze Medalist and the 2002 Braddock independent guard. Broadbent currently serves on the board for the South Florida Winter Guard Association and the Winter Guard International advisory board.
