From a Capital Sound press release:

Capital Sound Executive Director Marc Gofstein with the corps' board of directors announced today that the organization will not field a corps for the 2008 Drum Corps International season. While working through a series of internal issues, the organization plans to take the year to strengthen it's local Madison, Wis. roots and move forward with plans to field a competitive corps for the 2009 season.

"Having to make this call so late in the year is, basically, heart wrenching," said Gofstein. "These kids have put a lot of time, sweat and effort into getting ready for a great year. Unfortunately, circumstances presented a situation that couldn't be fixed in the time necessary to guarantee a positive experience for everyone."

Corps management is currently working to secure opportunities for all of its members to tour and perform with other drum corps this summer. Several groups have already been contacted to find spots for those Capital Sound members who would like to continue their drum corps experience in 2008.

Capital Sound will continue to operate its weekly bingo game and other fundraising efforts so that financial obligations will continue to be fulfilled.

"Most corps cite finances as the chief reason for going inactive, or even folding, but that's not the case here," said Gofstein. "We're actually in decent financial shape. Because of that component, I'm confident we'll be back stronger than ever in 2009."

The corps also will continue to sponsor its annual Drum Corps International Summer Tour event, Music in Motion, taking place this year on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Middleton High School in Middleton, Wis.
