Carolina Crown members will kick off their season in concert on Friday, June 1, with Christian big-band recording artist Denver & The Mile High Orchestra. Taking place at Hickory Grove Baptist Church - North Campus Worship Center in Charlotte, N.C., Carolina Crown will open the concert playing pieces from the corps' 2007 production, "Triple Crown," in addition to a few special encore selections.

While looking for new ways to expand their initiatives and partnerships to enhance the organization's mission, Carolina Crown worked to set up and sponsor the concert.

"Greg Lowe of our CrownEvents committee knew that Denver & The Mile High Orchestra's music was high-energy, fun, loud, full of spirit and would be well received by marching music fans in our area," said Carolina Crown Executive Director Kevin Smith. "Combine that with the opportunity to partner with Hickory Grove Baptist Church – North Campus and worship leader Corey Gaston [a Carolina Crown alum], bringing fans of both Carolina Crown and Christian music together for one truly world-class event was just too good to pass up."

This June 1 concert will give the corps an opportunity to perform in uniform for an audience just prior to the Drum Corps International Summer Music Games Tour opener on June 16 in Annapolis, Md.

"Not only does this give our members another performance opportunity, but it also replenishes their energy in the middle of our four-week 'spring training' period," Smith said.
