The Jazz on the Upper Great Plains Festival at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., wasn't just a time for me to watch all the high school groups perform as well as perform with Augie's top jazz ensemble, the Northlanders. It also was a chance for me to meet up with a friend of mine who I marched with in the Colts. Andrea and I both were in the baritone/euphonium section this summer, and she was performing with one of three groups from her high school (Westside High School in Omaha, Neb.) that were competing at the festival.
After watching her group perform, we spent about 25 minutes reflecting on the summer and catching up on what had been happening since the corps was dismissed on August 13. She's one of only a few people from the 2011 Colts that I've been able to see again after dismissal, and I always treasure the times I can spend with some of my fellow Red Team members.
