Lest you think a championship-winning corps director relaxes on the beach in Belize during the weeks following a championship, here's what Cadets director George Hopkins has been up to over the last couple weeks: I ran my first 10K in Stone Harbor, N.J. I did finish -- just over one hour. Did that Aug. 28.

I'm moving from Emmaus, Pa., to Allentown, Pa., from Sept. 1-3. I have kids from the Cadets, Crossmen and Indiana University of Pa. assisting me.

My YEA! efforts include a governance committee meeting in NYC to discuss the board recruiting efforts and my own three-year agreement. I also have a planning committee meeting to discuss the board retreat and the 2006 plan. I'll also run a finance committee meeting to review the cash situation due to fuel, etc. I met with accountant on the bus company we own, and I have been searching for and interviewing an operations manager. With regards to the US Scholastic Band Association, I've been compiling judge plans and flights, looking at an overall plan review and assisting with various tasks.

I went to three Philadelphia Phillies games at Citizen's Bank Park and one at Shea Stadium. Including April games, the Phils are 6-1 on games I attend. I am also going Sept 5, 12 and 28 and -- oh yes -- to the playoffs.

Yes, I am boring. No vacation -- just working! I am hoping to go to London with my daughter Katie this spring. For more information about the Cadets, go to YEA.org.
