Continuing their success this season, the Cavaliers of Rosemont, Ill., scored a 98.7 here tonight, one of the highest score ever posted in a drum corps event."I thought the corps did great!" said corps director Jeff Fiedler, who witnessed their performance from under the overhang at Camp Randall Stadium tonight. "I was really happy with the performance that I saw. I felt really good about our performance tonight. We came in very relaxed, very confident, and having a whole bunch of rehearsals under our belt, and I think that translated into our performance tonight," Fiedler said. The Cavaliers edged out the Cadets (96.95) and the Blue Devils (96.9) tonight in front of a huge crow, who earlier in the day cheered madly for hometown corps the Madison Scouts (85.5)Fiedler has said that the Green Machine will rehearse and change parts of its "Frameworks" program until championship night this Saturday. "We have lists and lists and lists of improvements we need to make," Fiedler said earlier, and he echoed that sentiment again tonight by saying, "We still have improvements to make.""I thought it was good! We've had good rehearsals for the past couple of days," said Jonathan Wright, 21,a pit percussion member from Nashville. The popular Cavaliers program, which draws on influences as eclectic as the 1999 Brad Pitt move "Fight Club," not only continually pleases judges, but also continues to win over drum corps newbies as well. Madison Mayor Susan J.M. Bauman, who proclaimed it "Drum and Bugle Corps Week" in Madison on Wednesday and was on hand to wish Drum Corps International a happy 30th anniversary, was blown away by the Cavaliers' performance. "I thought it was great!" Bauman said. "I loved it!" Two corps that advanced to Division I quarterfinals today -- Capital Regiment from Columbus, Ohio and the Magic of Orlando from Orlando, Fla., advanced to Division I semifinals tomorrow night. The festivities here tonight also included a fireworks display, the traditional age-out ceremony and a special Drum Corps International 30th anniversary celebration featuring the Santa Clara Vanguard Alumni Corps.
