From a Colt Cadets' press release: "Imagination has given us the steam engine, the telephone, the talking-machine, and the automobile, for these things had to be dreamed of before they became realities." --- L. Frank Baum, author of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz"

The Colt Cadets after a recent rehearsal
Welcome to "Oz Fest!", where "The Wizard of Oz" meets "The Wiz." "The Wiz" brings a brand new twist to the story of Oz. The upbeat, jazzy rock style of "The Wiz" explores the fairy tale that has captivated our imaginations, and its whimsical nature is all to entertain.    Our storyline begins in Dorothy's dreamland with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Before long, the cowardly Lion, in "I'm a Mean Ole Lion," rudely interrupts Dorothy and our story. The Tinman begs to join in, asking, "Slide Some Oil to Me." With the addition of the scarecrow, we "Ease on Down the Road" to the Emerald City, in hopes of finding the Wizard. During "If You Believe," Dorothy finally realizes by believing in herself (and with a little help from the magic slippers) she can find her way home. "A Brand New Day" celebrates the return home with the newly found power of believing. Even as the story is meant to be entertaining, without any underlying moral, many of us will find some significance or symbolism from this classic as it relates to our own lives. Leave your here and now, and trust the youth and energy of the Colt Cadets, as we travel to "Somewhere Beyond the Rainbow!" No prior music experience required to join the Dubuque, Iowa Colt Cadets (a feeder program for the Colts division I corps) -- anyone from 10 to 16 years of age is welcome to attend.
