The Colts of Dubuque, Iowa and the drum corps community tragically lost one of its members on Monday, Dec. 10. Seventeen-year-old Bianca Vocke, a member of the Colts' color guard, passed away after sustaining injuries in a car crash in Grundy County, Iowa on Nov. 30. Also seriously injured in the accident was friend and fellow Colts corps member Erin Reichle, who is now recovering from injuries. "We are overwhelmed, flattered and humbled by the overwhelming outpouring of support we've received from so many drum corps people," said Colts Director Greg Orwoll. "We're already on our fourth binder of well-wishes and condolences which we are passing along to the families of these two young ladies, and the letters of support are still arriving by the hundreds." Funds to assist the families of Vocke and Reichle have been established by the Colts. More information about contributing to these funds can be found online at Colts.org. "The combined critical care expenses related to this accident could very well tally into the hundreds of thousands of dollars," Orwoll said. "Looking at the expenses incurred with their helicopter flights to the teams of medical professionals who assisted in life-saving efforts, we hope to do everything we can to assist the families involved in this terrible tragedy." Vocke will be laid to rest on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Dubuque. Coincidentally, the funeral will fall on the same day of the Colts' first rehearsal and audition camp of the new season. Those members of the Colts organization who wish to attend the services on Saturday will be provided transportation to and from the rehearsal site for the funeral, interment and luncheon.
