"Commitment to Excellence" program introduces band students to DCI

by Drum Corps International

Drum Corps International's Commitment to Excellence program is psyching up thousands of band students around the country! Currently, in the 2004 Commitment to Excellence program there are almost 800 participating bands in almost 30 states. Thousands of high school and college students are excited and inspired by the extraordinary young men and women that generate drum corps performances every night from mid-June through early August. The incredible performances that Drum Corps International's corps achieve today are a direct result of thousands of music educators and their commitment to enrich the lives of young people through music and pageantry. The Western Dubuque High School Band -- committed to excellence
Drum Corps International would like to recognize these educators, students, boosters and administrators that have made a commitment to excellence on and off the football field, parade route and classroom. The schools that participate in the Drum Corps International Commitment to Excellence program have proven their willingness to go beyond the ordinary. How have educators and students used the Commitment to Excellence program to motivate each other? Read Western Dubuque High School Band in Iowa's method. If you would like to add your school or band program to this list, please ask your band director or music teacher to send an e-mail to excellence@dci.org with contact information and a brief description of how they use drum corps as an example of excellence.
