Blue Devils Stan Glyde, the father of Blue Devils Music Coordinator Dave Glyde, passed away July 3. Stan was born in Welling, England, and studied music in the United States, eventually settling in California. The corps honors Stan with a music tribute containing excerpts of a concert he performed in at the Lighthouse Jazz Club in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

Boston Crusaders The Boston Crusaders and the Madison Scouts, two of the oldest DCI drum corps, are engaged in battle – for financial supremacy? In this good-natured "Old School Challenge" the two corps are betting on who can raise the most funds in a two-week period starting Saturday, July 17. The director of the "losing" corps must wear a shirt and hat from the "winning" corps during the DCI Premier Event in Atlanta, Saturday, July 31. To add insult to injury, the losing corps' front ensemble cart will bear the logo of the winning corps for the rest of the season!

Cadets On Sunday, August 8, the Cadets celebrate 76 years with an Alumni and Friends gathering from 3 to 6 p.m. The day will also include a North Jersey educational clinic for bands students and music educators during the Cadets Experience at Clifton Stadium from 12 to 5 p.m. The DCI Tour event, Drum Corps: An American Tradition will happen that night in the same stadium at 7 p.m.

Colts On Sunday, July 18, 7 p.m., the Colts and six other World and Open Class corps compete at the Summer Showdown in West Des Moines, Iowa. An Iowa station, WOITV, signed on as a title sponsor and featured the Colts in an advertisement for the event.

Madison Scouts Starting this weekend, the Madison Scouts are racing the Boston Crusaders to raise the most funds in the "Old-School Challenge." Directors of both corps see an opportunity to energize fundraising efforts on both sides, as both have legacies beginning long before the inception of Drum Corps International in 1972. Madison Scouts Executive Director Chris Komnick said "both corps will benefit in the end," and that the drive would "strengthen the bonds between these two great historic organizations."

Phantom Regiment The Phantom Regiment organization honors former member Kevin Nesmith, who passed away Sunday, July 11. Since aging out as lead conductor, Nesmith served on the staff in many roles, including assistant director and as a member of the corps' board of directors. Funeral services were held Thursday in Rockford, Ill.
