7th Regiment's Kinetic Winter Guard program will perform locally this winter at Musical Arts Conference and Winter Guard International competitive events. Blue Knights



The Blue Knights will present two free educational brass clinics on Thursday, Nov. 5 near San Antonio (Helotes, Texas) and on Monday, Nov. 9 in Canyon, Texas on the campus of West Texas A&M University. The sessions will feature Blue Knights brass caption head Andy Smart who was a trumpet soloist in the Tony Award-winning stage show "Blast!"

The Cadets



A new book in honor of the Cadets' 75th anniversary chronicles the history of the corps from 1934 to 2009. "This book is something special," said Greg Cinzio, a Cadets alum from 1966-1977 who co-authored the book with David Shaw (1950-1958) and Kevin Ullrich (1982-1983). "It means so much for us to finally complete it and let others have a chance to know, respect and cherish the wonderful history of our corps." The 252-page softbound book costs $25, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the corps.

Cascades



The Cascades will present "Silver Lining" as their 2010 competitive production. Music will be sourced from various composers including Jack Stamp and Charles Strouse.

Crossmen



The Crossmen will host a leadership and drum major workshop during the corps' upcoming "eXperience camp." The session, led by Crossmen director Mark Chambers and former Phantom Regiment drum major and Jim Jones Leadership Award winner Kara Hoeflinger, will explore a variety of leadership topics including organization, communication, attitude and relationships.

Madison Scouts



The Madison Scouts' 2010 production will feature George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and Richard Rodgers' "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue." "In selecting these works I wanted music that will enable us to re-establish the Madison Scout brand this first year. We will be building upon that identifiable Madison 'wall of sound' from the past while at the same time exploring new and exciting ways of presenting these wonderful pieces," said James Mason, artistic director.

Mandarins



The Mandarins will be seen marching down the streets of Sacramento, Calif. during the city's Santa Parade on Saturday, Nov. 28. As part of a homecoming weekend for the corps, the event brings current corps members and alums together to form the parade ensemble.

Spirit



Spirit has been selected to present an educational clinic session at the upcoming 2010 Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Savannah, Ga. Mark Waymire, Spirit director of education and programming will present on a variety of drum corps related topics with brass co-caption heads Todd Snead and Andy Putnam along with Spirit founder and DCI Hall of Fame member Freddy Martin. In other staff related news, Spirit has hired Jeremy Hunt as drill designer and visual supervisor.

Velvet Knights



The VK Youth Arts Organization recently received a grant from the Disney VoluntEARS Community Fund. The organization was chosen by Disneyland staffers as one of 64 nonprofits that will be awarded a cumulative total of approximately $315,000 "in recognition of unique and innovative nonprofit efforts that address critical challenges in our local communities."
