The Blue Devils’ local Contra Costa Times reported on the organization’s 2009 World Championship wins. This marks the 13th title the Blue Devils have captured and the very first in the history of the Blue Devils B.

Instructor Brent Montgomery has retired as Blue Stars percussion caption head, a position he has held with the corps since 2006. “Brent’s contributions to our percussion program and our entire organization have been enormous during the past four years,” said Blue Stars Executive Director Brad Furlano. “He took a Division II program and developed it into a World Class Finalist ensemble. “

Colts Executive Director Greg Orwoll puts a period on the organization’s 2009 season in a letter posted on Colts.org. Orwoll says that the 2009 corps members “exceeded all our previous levels of achievement and excellence, both on and off the field.”

Cadets volunteers Tom and Linda Weiss were recognized at the World Championship Finals as 2009 DCI Volunteers of the Year. Also within the organization, Doug Dickel was named by administrative staff as the Cadets’ Volunteer of the Year.

Sacramento, Calif. public television station KVIE featured the Mandarins this summer in a travel segment called “Rob on the Road.” Host Rob Stewart interviewed brass instructor Jim Tabuchi while catching up with the group during one of its last rehearsals of the summer.

The Vanguard Cadets will debut a new winter percussion group that will compete during the offseason as an Independent Open Class ensemble. A pre-audition workshop is scheduled for early October.
