Academy members recently completed their second rehearsal camp of the year. With the color guard section on break for the winter, the brass and percussion sections prepped music for the organization’s annual benefit dinner in March as well as the corps’ 2010 competitive production.
The Cadets

The Cadets

The Cadets are back in action this weekend in Woodstown, N.J., for their monthly rehearsal camp. Among the scheduled highlights will be the debut of a new uniform for the corps by DeMoulin Brothers and Company which was recently announced as an exclusive provider for the Cadets and the U.S. Scholastic Band Association.

Cascades

The Cascades recently completed a three-day rehearsal camp. Corps members continued to forge ahead on visual and musical techniques, while volunteers were on hand throughout the weekend to inventory and organize the organization’s souvenir booth.
Colts

Colts

The Colts wrapped up their February rehearsal camp last weekend at Washington Middle School in Dubuque, Iowa. “During the ensemble performance on Sunday there was a feeling of electricity within the gymnasium as the members performed for a standing-room-only, audience,” said Mike Grimes, Colts operations director, in a post on the corps’ Web site.

Mandarins

After a 12-years hiatus, the Mandarins’ winter guard returned to the floor performing on Feb. 6 in Modesto, Calif.

Teal Sound

Teal Sound Director Randy Blackburn is interviewed in a new video on the corps’ Web site. Discussing the group’s past successes and future goals as a World Class corps beginning in 2010, Blackburn says: “People out there will have a really good opportunity to see what that future of World Class is this year. You’ll start noticing some changes this year and then the following year in 2011, and following that in 2012. … Somebody said to me the other day, ‘Well they better watch out if they say we can use pyrotechnics, because we’re liable to blow up the field.'”

Velvet Knights

The Velvet Knights are looking to drum up support to replace an aging equipment trailer which has weathered more than 20,000 miles since the corps returned to competition in 2007.
