Several Academy members will be among the ranks of the Arizona State University Sun Devil Marching Band at the group’s annual “Pass in Review” concert on Tuesday, Dec. 7 in Tempe.

The Boston Crusaders’ 2011 production will feature music from “Les Miserables.” “We feel the intimate familiarity, the concept, and especially the musical score will resonate with both the fans and our own performers,” said Executive Director Tom Spataro. “Our designers always consider fan appeal when creating our productions, but we want it to be clear to everyone that this is the ultimate priority for 2011.”

The Cavaliers drew prospective members from the U.S., Canada, Japan and South America during their first audition camp of the season last weekend in Rosemont, Ill. Brass staff member Nate Holland says that those in attendance possessed “a level of focus, preparation and attention to detail that is especially rare at this time of year.”

Nicola Esposito of Italy tells of his experience marching with the Crossmen in a recent post on the Drum Corps Europe website. Esposito said, “Marching in a drum corps is not only a privilege, it is first and foremost a well-deserved honor.” Written in Italian, an online translator is recommended.

Genesis welcomed three new members to its educational and design staff including Heather Benton (color guard caption head), Jaime Martinez (visual designer) and Sam Rodriguez (percussion designer). “We could not be luckier to have these educators join the group. The task at hand, on the visual side, with this year’s production will be a tremendous one,” Director Chris Magonigal said.

The Glassmen appointed a new color guard caption head, Kristy Templin. “I am so excited to be returning to the Glassmen organization for the 2011 season in this new role, and I am extremely honored to be a part of a program that not only has been successful in the past, but also has a very bright future ahead,” she said.

More than 100 prospective members were in attendance at Oregon Crusaders’ first audition camp of the year last weekend in Salem. “While we are excited by the turnout so far, we are continuing our recruiting efforts in earnest to find the best talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer,” said Program Director Mike Quillen.
