Boston Crusaders



All sections of the Boston Crusaders were in action last weekend in Bradenton, Fla., for what Color Guard Caption Head Matt Winans reports as, " the best April camp we've had, by far." The corps is now only three weeks away from its "May Preview," the group's first public performance of the season.

The Cadets



The Cadets have officially launched their 2010 Maroon & Gold Club Campaign, a fundraising effort with a goal of reaching 1,000 donors in 2010. Cadets Director George Hopkins helped get things started with a personal $5,000 contribution. He said, "Of course, The Cadets are a key part of my job, but the program is also my passion … After 30-years, watching thousands of young people pass through these doors and go out into the world to make their mark, the Cadets is most certainly the place I want to invest."

Carolina Crown



Rain and heavy winds couldn't keep Carolina Crown at bay last weekend during the corps' final off-season rehearsal camp of the year in Fort Mill, S.C. Color Guard members rejoined the full corps during this camp after time off during the indoor color guard season. The corps will kick off its spring training on May 22 at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C.

Cascades



The Cascades will host a series of educational marching band clinics this summer for students and their directors. Clinics will take place in Seattle (June 26), Portland (July 3) and Boise (July 6), the final two coinciding with Drum Corps International Tour events.

The Cavaliers



The Cavaliers gathered in Rosemont, Ill. last weekend for their April rehearsal camp. The color guard section finished up their auditions while the brass and percussion sections spent time outdoors in a visual rehearsal. "We used this time to review and expand on our visual movement technique," said visual co-caption head Matt Heard. The Cavaliers' drum line will begin spring training rehearsals on May 16 with the full corps following suit on May 21.

Colts



The Colts made their first public performance of the year during their "Spring Debut" last weekend in Dubuque, Iowa. In addition to the Colts and Colt Cadets, the event also included performances by a new steel drum ensemble sponsored by the Colts Youth Organization and the Dubuque Senior High School Winter Guard.

Crossmen



After overhauling their food trailer during the off-season, the Crossmen are looking for a few final donations to complete the renovation before hitting the road for the 2010 Drum Corps International Tour.

Jersey Surf



A memorial service for Gabe Gulino, a longtime Jersey Surf brass staff member who passed away April 17, is scheduled to be held on May 8 at St. Paul's United Methodist Churchin Brick, N.J.

Pacific Crest welcomes new low brass staff member Shane Reider. A student at the University of North Texas, Reider will begin his tenure with the corps on May 15.

Phantom Regiment



For the fourth year in a row, Phantom Regiment was honored by the Rockford (Ill.) Area Music Industry with an award in the Music Outreach Organization category. Executive Director Rick Valenzuela was on hand to accept the award presented on April 29.

A scheduling conflict has forced Pioneer to relocate its April rehearsal camp this weekend to Cudahy (Wis.) Middle School.

Santa Clara Vanguard



Vanguard will be teaming up with the Blue Devils this summer to present several educational events including a three-day summer leadership clinic June 23-25 at Fresno State University and the System Blue Marching Band Skills Camp in Minneapolis, Minn., July 15-17.

Melissa Luell will serve as Troopers color guard captain during the 2010 summer season. A student at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., Luell has been a member of the corps' color guard in 2007 and 2009.

Velvet Knights will be hosting a May 13 fundraiser at John's Incredible Pizza in Buena Park, Calif. Following will be a trip to the Irvine Spectrum movie theater to watch Drum Corps International's spring cinema event, The Countdown.
