Blue Stars The Blue Stars' brass section will play Jupiter Marching Brass instruments in 2011. "The entire Blue Stars organization is thrilled to begin its next chapter playing Jupiter Quantum Marching Brass," said Executive Director Brad Furlano. "We had many instrument options for our brass needs, but the quality of the horns and dedication of the Jupiter service team convinced us there was no better choice."
Boston Crusaders The Boston Crusaders are on a crusade to expand their "digital footprint" this month. The group has a goal of doubling its audience to 3,000 fans on Twitter.
Carolina Crown Carolina Crown's "A Sec2nd Chance" tour DVD is now available. The in-depth look at the corps' 2010 season includes interviews with members, behind-the-scenes footage, and a special bonus Blu-ray disc with the corps' high definition World Championship Finals performance.
The Cavaliers Cavaliers founder Don Warren was recently featured on the Chicago ABC affiliate's "Chicagoing with Bill Campbell" program, discussing the origins of the corps and where the group has grown to today. Watch the 14-minute video on the corps' website.
Colts Colts announced its 2011 visual staff members. "I am really proud of the work that this staff did last season in developing our marching program," said caption head Stephanie Furniss. "I am looking forward to working with them again as our instructional staff for 2011. They are a great group of teachers who I believe will bring successful results for the corps members."
Crossmen The Crossmen have hired cymbal instructor Melissa McGoldrick to round out the corps' 2011 percussion staff. "This staff has shaped up to become an awesome group of educators that the Crossmen faithful can be proud of. Now it is time to go to work on becoming a great drum corps," said caption head Rudy Gowern.
Jersey Surf As part of its first audition camp of the season, on Sunday, Nov. 21 the Jersey Surf will host an orientation session and "volunteer expo" for parents, alumni, friends and supporters. "This year, we're going to change the format of the orientation just a bit, so we can focus more of the session on the plan for the coming season, while providing an opportunity for folks to learn more about their areas of interest, or to get involved with the corps in an operational role as volunteers," said Executive Director Bob Jacobs.
Madison Scouts The Madison Scouts will soon rollout a comprehensive endowment and planned giving initiative. Working to "ensure the perpetual fiscal and organizational viability of the Madison Drum & Bugle Corps Association, Inc. via a sustaining endowment provided through one-time contributions, annual contributions, special project contributions and planned giving," the initiative was set in motion thanks to the generosity of supporter Bill Streit who passed away last December.
Mandarins Members of the Mandarins' design staff recently met in San Francisco for discussion on the corps' 2011 production. "It was great to have everyone in one room after the number of preliminary conversations we have had. There were a lot of good ideas put out there, and through our discussions we were able to narrow it down to a couple of opportunities that we are following up on," said program coordinator Greg Mar.
Pacific Crest Pacific Crest's 2011 production will be titled "Push, Pull, Twist, Turn." According to program coordinator Dale Leaman, "it's a program that melds music with the movement of body and form into a four-movement suite." Among the musical selections being considered for inclusion in the show are pieces by Mahler, Philip Glass and Danny Elfman.
Phantom Regiment Phantom Regiment alum Dr. Thomas Bough, director of the Huskie Marching Band at Northern Illinois University, will be featured as composer, conductor and tuba soloist during an upcoming concert with the NIU Wind Symphony.
Pioneer Pioneer's 2011 production "Celebrate" is being designed in recognition of the corps' 50th anniversary. The program will include selections by Malcolm Arnold, Gustav Holst and Dvo??ˇk, among others. They're noted as "some of the corps' more audience-appealing productions of the past."
Santa Clara Vanguard Santa Clara Vanguard just received delivery of a new 53-foot trailer that now needs to be outfitted to store all of the corps' equipment including instruments, color guard gear and uniforms. With a goal of having it on the road for the 2011 summer season, the corps is seeking volunteers to assist with the project.
Spartans Spartans' 2011 production will be called "Midnight" and feature musical selections from the movie "Twilight" as well as compositions by staff arranger Key Poulan.
Spirit of Atlanta Spirit of Atlanta posted a roster of new and returning design and instructional staff members who will once again be led this season by Mark Waymire, director of education and programming. Waymire said, "Our highly qualified, diverse, experienced, successful, and creative design team represents our endeavors to bring our members consistency and professional dedication when creating their performance vehicle."
Velvet Knights Velvet Knights preview their 2011 production in a new video on the DCI Fan Network. The clip is a "home run" and includes a look at sketches of the uniforms corps members will wear this coming season.
