This picture is from Kristen Richard, a Crossmen mellophone player from 2004-2006.

My buddy Kevin McDermott and I first met each other during the 2005 season at a Crossmen rehearsal site in Sun Valley, Pa. His mother and I met in the ladies room where we had a 30 minute conversation about Crossmen. She kept talking about her son and how I needed to meet him. Lo and behold, we walked out of the restroom and there he was!

Kevin's mother introduced us and we had a short conversation (including football where he mentioned I should be an Eagles fan even though I'm from Texas, and promised to bring me an Eagles shirt when he volunteered).

Later on in the season, Kevin returned to volunteer with his friend Hoover at the Crossmen food truck. I had forgotten about his promise to bring me an Eagles shirt, but he didn't! During the time he volunteered, Kevin always made sure to tell me old Crossmen stories and just made sure my day was going well.

When the 2005 season was over, we kept in touch through e-mail. One day Kevin notified me that he and Hoover were going to march with the Bridgemen in 2006! We made plans to get together and take a picture at the DCI Eastern Classic since he wouldn't be able to volunteer.

So this picture is of Kevin and me after Bridgemen's performance at the DCI Eastern Classic in Allentown, Pa., in 2006. Notice I am wearing the Eagles shirt he gave me underneath my jacket.

Kevin played soprano in 1992 and 1994, Hoover played soprano in 1992, and I played mellophone in 2004, 2005 and 2006. It's great to know that even a decade can't weaken the unity between Crossmen.

Thanks, Kristen!
