INDIANAPOLIS, INd. – Drum Corps International underscored an emphasis on wellness today by introducing a strategic association with West Music and Drums Alive to enhance percussion-focused workout programs.

The announcement kicked off the final day of Drum Corps International’s 2019 Annual Meetings and Health, Wellness & Safety Summit involving more than 350 participants from the DCI community.

Drums Alive uses primary research in program development to enhance wellness on multiple levels — physical, mental, social, and emotional — while promoting health and wellness activity through a combination of music and movement. West Music serves as the exclusive distributor of equipment for the training and certification programs and helps ensure excellence in the musical components of the workouts.

DCI will join West Music and Drums Alive to provide expertise for the percussion-based curriculum in a variety of ways – coordinating access to World Class drum lines for interactive content, opportunities for live and recorded demonstrations, and opportunities through expanded DCI partnerships. Representatives from West Music and Drums Alive joined DCI CEO Dan Acheson for the formal announcement.

Robin Walenta, President & CEO of West Music said, “As the distributor of equipment for Drums Alive trainings and certification programs, West Music is thrilled to welcome DCI to the partnership to enhance the workout curriculum with percussion expertise and new content. Together, this collaboration will continue to encourage people of all ages and abilities to incorporate playing music into their personal wellness routines.”

Drums Alive Founder & CEO, Carrie Ekins added, “We are excited to add Drum Corps International to the Drums Alive team. The leadership they bring in percussion skill and instruction will bring a new level of skill to our programs and enhance the participant’s workout experience. We look forward to incorporating the incredible DCI component into our programs.”

DCI CEO Dan Acheson said, “This is a great way for the entire DCI community to leverage one of the basic components of our activity for increasing health and wellness for participants of all ages and fitness levels. It was great to have West Music and Drums Alive here to demonstrate their program at our conference today.”

As drum corps prepare for spring training and the 2019 Summer Tour, the entire DCI community will continue to focus on health, wellness, and safety initiatives to provide the best possible environment for all participants.
