Drum Corps International has determined it is in the best interest of all involved to cancel the DCI Summer Music Games Solo & Ensemble Festival event. As a top priority to offer nothing less than a first-class experience, DCI decided that with only a small number of entries as of July 5, students would not realize the total experience they had anticipated and that DCI intended to offer. The pursuit of exploring new opportunities to offer an experiential learning environment for high school students in and around major events, led DCI to see the solo festival as a worthy concept. Despite the overwhelming support of many music educators throughout Texas of the idea of combining a solo and ensemble competition with a mini-master class, it is apparent there should be more work done by DCI to develop a summer solo festival that is appealing to all students. To those that intended to participate, DCI extends its sincerest apologies. Entrants will receive a full and immediate refund in addition to complimentary tickets to the DCI Southwestern Championship at the Alamodome on Saturday, July 23. Drum Corps International would like to thank all parties that supported the development of the solo festival concept. Recognizing the passionate effort put forth to make the solo festival a successful event, DCI will not hesitate to pursue new concepts in the future that work to share the very best the drum corps experience has to offer with as many students as possible.
