Drum Corps International fans came together this fall, submitting more than 100 of their artistic pumpkins decorated in the theme of their favorite drum corps units in all their Halloween glory. Below are winners of this first-ever contest in addition to some special honorable mentions. Don't forget to take a look at a complete photo gallery of all submissions. First Prize ('07 World Championships DVD package) Lisa Luera of Frisco, Texas
Drum Corps International judges said about this Bluecoats themed creation: "This is the complete artistic package. The imagery is so realistic, the tuba player is practically marching right off of the pumpkin and onto the football field."
Second Prize ('07 World Championship DVD) Jessica Spickler of Athens, Georgia
Jessica, a student at the University of Georgia, said about her Carolina Crown inspired masterpiece: "I adapted this design myself from a photograph and am very proud of it. Sorry for the cheap lighting, they don't allow candles in the dorms!"
Third Prize ('07 Midseason DVD and World Championship CD set) Dustin Lynn of Waynesboro, Tennessee
Dustin says the design is inspired by the color guard costumes used in the 2007 Blue Devils' program "Winged Victory." DCI Judges said: "This design pushes the artistic envelope of drum corps pumpkin carving seamlessly melding the use of paints, props and textiles. It's got the flair of a World Champion."
