When Drum Corps International kicks off its season in Annapolis, Md. on June 16, it will also take the wraps off the brand-new "Hot Chops" contest presented by ChopSaver all-natural lip balm.

The "Hot Chops" contest will give fans the opportunity to use cell phone text messaging to vote for their favorite "spotlighted" corps section of the night—thereby selecting the section with the "Hottest Chops." After making its debut in Annapolis on June 16, the promotion will also include Summer Music Games Tour stops in Westminster, Md.; East Rutherford, N.J.; Beverly, Mass.; and Lawrence, Mass.

Prior to the announcement of scores at these select events, audience members will be given a number to which they can send their text message vote. Results will be tallied immediately with the winning corps section of the night awarded the prestigious four-foot tall "Hot Chops" traveling trophy made to resemble a tube of ChopSaver. A replica of the trophy will also be awarded to the winning corps which will be chock full of ChopSaver samples for corps members to enjoy.

"We're breaking new ground with this promotion by giving fans a chance to vote for their favorite section with the 'hottest chops' of the night. It will be interactive, engaging and fun," said Lora Morton, Manager of Promotion Services for Drum Corps International.

Developed specifically for musicians, ChopSaver contains 100 percent natural ingredients. According to professional trumpet player and product creator, Dan Gosling, "I wanted to see if I could create a product specifically made for people who depend on their lips on a daily basis. I envisioned something that wasn't thick and gooey or hard and waxy. Something that wasn't filled with harsh chemicals and didn't smell awful as so many lip care products do. Something that would make your lips feel better after a hard day of playing."

One section at each event will have the opportunity to earn bragging rights as the "Hot Chops" section of that night. The promotion is scheduled to take place at the following Summer Music Games Tour events:

  • Annapolis, Maryland: Saturday, June 16 (Fans choose the "Hot Chops" brass section)

  • Westminster, Maryland: Friday, June 29 ("Hot Chops" color guard)

  • East Rutherford, New Jersey: Saturday, June 30 ("Hot Chops" drum line)

  • Beverly, Massachusetts: Wednesday, July 4 ("Hot Chops" front percussion ensemble)

  • Lawrence, Massachusetts: Friday, July 6 ("Hot Chops" brass section)
