Annual DCI Houston event will find a new home at the University of Houston

DCI Houston event to be relocated; ticket sales temporarily paused

Drum Corps International announced today that its highly anticipated DCI Houston event will be relocated to a new venue. To ensure a smooth transition for all fans, ticket sales for the event have been temporarily paused.

The decision follows an official notification from the University of Houston on June 8 regarding urgent turf repairs required at TDECU Stadium. The stadium’s playing surface sustained significant damage in the spring due to a non-athletic stadium event. While DCI staff has been tracking the potential issue closely since April, the university’s finalized timeline for repairs means the stadium will be unavailable for the DCI Houston event presented by Fruhauf Uniforms on Friday, July 17.

“While a last-minute venue shift is never ideal, the safety of our performing corps and the quality of the fan experience are our highest priorities,” said DCI director of events Eric Hjellming. “We have been monitoring this situation and are working hand-in-hand with our partners in Houston to ensure the show goes on.”

What this means for current ticket holders and fans:

  • The event is not canceled: The DCI Houston event will still take place on its originally scheduled date with the same lineup of corps.
  • Ticket sales temporarily paused: Online ticket sales have paused to secure and finalize the setup of the new venue.
  • Venue announcement coming soon: DCI is currently in conversation with alternative Houston venues and expects to announce the new stadium location in the near future.
  • Refunds: Full refunds of individual ticket sales, including premium add-ons, parking and processing fees will be processed within the next seven to ten business days.

For group ticket purchasers, Drum Corps International’s ticketing staff will begin reaching out directly next week to discuss options concerning refunds and potential transfers to the new venue once ticket sales become available.

“We appreciate the patience, understanding and continued support of the drum corps community as we navigate this late shift,” Hjellming said.

Further updates will be posted directly to DCI.org and sent via email to all existing ticket holders.
