From a Colts press release: Chad Dempsey will serve as the Colts visual designer in 2006, while Jude Boughton will serve the Colts design team in 2006 as program coordinator. "We are pleased to bring someone of Chad's ability and experience to the Colts to help us produce a superior program in 2006. And as a Colts alum, he has the added bonus of bringing with him a great perspective of what we need here to be successful", said Orwoll. Dempsey is originally from Maryville, Miss., and holds a
Bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Kansas. Currently, Dempsey is the head band director and fine arts department chair at BL Garza Middle School in Edinburg, Texas. He also dedicates his time teaching the marching bands at two Edinburg high schools. He was formerly a full time director at Edinburg North High School, and some of his responsibilities there included concert bands, marching band, jazz band, and winter guard. During the summers, he has taught many years with the Phantom Regiment visual staff, Colts visual and brass staff, and Teal Sound as the drill writer. Dempsey also marched with both the Colts and Phantom Regiment drum corps. Through D/Zine, his independent drill and consulting business, he serves as drill designer and consultant for many local and regional bands every fall season. "Chad is no doubt an up and coming designer, and he has a tremendous contemporary look to his work", said Orwoll. "We will be staged well and we will be exciting visually. His work is smart, and it is memorable". Dempsey's affiliations include the Texas Music Educator's Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, USSBA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is happily married to his wife, Sonia, of two years. Boughton, meanwhile, served as movement instructor and program consultant last season for the Colts and has been promoted from within the organization to this new role. Prior to working with the Colts in 2005, he served as a guest movement instructor with the Glassmen, during their pre-tour season sessions, and was the color guard co-caption head and movement and dance instructor of the Phantom Regiment in 2003 and 2004. He is also the movement technician and a designer for The Black Watch Winter Guard from Mt. Laurel, N.J. His other teaching credits include Pittston Area High School, Ben Davis High School, Triton High School and the Reading Buccaneers. Boughton has also served as a movement judge for WGI since 2000, and has served as a marching band and winter guard facilitator for his home judging circuit Tournament of Bands in Pennsylvania. Boughton attended Kutztown University in Pennsylvania with a focus in theater and dance and has taken in-depth studies in "movement for non-dancers," "Laban movement analysis," and "dance in the musical theater."
He resides in Pittston, Pa. "Jude has a fresh and creative perspective on the activity in general, and has experienced a great deal of success in other programs he has managed in the past," said Greg Orwoll, executive director of the Colts. "He brings a passion for the activity and skills in communication, effective organization and planning to our team. We are confident he and our entire organization are going to experience success together this year."
