Ames Field; Michigan City, Ind.
Drum Corps International Executive Director Dan Acheson, speaking last Friday before an enthusiastic drum corps audience at a Cavaliers-sponsored event in Michigan City, Ind., announced that the town's Ames Field would be the home of the preliminary round of the 2008 Drum Corps International Division II & III World Championships. The event will mark the official start of the 2008 Championship Week which will culminate at the new Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. Joining Acheson at the announcement, made during the 47th Annual "Pageant of Drums" DCI-sanctioned competition, were Michigan City Mayor Chuck Oberlie, Councilman Joe Doyle and local event chairperson Mike Pease. "We are extremely pleased to be able to bring the preliminaries for Divisions II & III to a community with a long-standing tradition of supporting Drum Corps International and its member units. The enthusiasm of the people of Michigan City, combined with the world-class Ames Field venue, will undoubtedly create an unparalleled atmosphere for showcasing the corps of Divisions II & III. It will be a fantastic way to start off the 2008 World Championships." Although specific schedules for the 2008 World Championships have not yet been released, the Semifinals and Finals for Divisions II & III are tentatively scheduled to be held at Lucas Oil Stadium.
