More than 22 performing ensembles will take the field this Saturday, Sept. 29 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, as they compete at the 2007 Drum Corps Europe (DCE) Championships. Corps representing the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Belgium and Italy, will compete in the one-day event. Kicking off the championship festivities on Friday evening in Rotterdam, DCE will host "Drum Corps Rocks the Town," a free preview on the steps of the city's World Trade Center of five corps that will perform in the Saturday competition. Drum Corps Europe officials say that they are pleased with the geographically diverse group of corps that will be featured at the Friday preview performance and at the World Championships on Saturday. "The mixture of English, Italians and Dutch gives our free preview an international flavor," said DCE's Marco Janssen. "We believe these corps are more than able to enthuse the Rotterdam public [about the drum corps activity]."
Among the performing Open Class groups will be Jubal, the Netherlands-based defending DCE Champion. Drum Corps International fans may remember Jubal from the 2006 Summer Music Games Tour when the corps visited America performing at events including the DCI World Championships in Madison, Wis. Jubal's 2006 program, "The Chase," is featured over the video montage above. View a photo gallery from the 2006 DCE World Championships.
