Drum corps fans will get their chance to "make the call" as they select – and then judge – their favorite performances of the world's most elite marching music ensembles as part of Drum Corps International's 2008 spring cinema event, "The Countdown."

With a special downloadable score sheet, fans will be able to enter their local participating theater and keep track of their ranking and rating of the performances.

Coming to National CineMedia theaters across the U.S. on Thursday, April 24, the program will feature six full-length corps performances from among the 36 World Championship finalists of 2005, 2006 and 2007, as chosen by fans during an online vote starting Wednesday, Feb. 27. The individual corps receiving the most votes (with no corps appearing more than once) will comprise the lineup for this special cinema event. But the fun doesn't stop there!

In a new twist from the popular "Classic Countdown" format of the past several years, fans will now have their chance to try their hand at the judging process as they put down the scores to select the "2008 Countdown Champion."

"With a special downloadable score sheet, fans will be able to enter their local participating theater and keep track of their ranking and rating of the performances," said Chris Weber, communications manager for Drum Corps International. "Following the event, attendees will visit DCI.org to enter their scores, and the honor of being the first-ever 'Countdown Champion' will be bestowed upon one of the selected groups."

Hosted by veteran Drum Corps International broadcasters Steve Rondinaro and Dennis DeLucia, fans will relive these corps performances remixed and remastered specifically for this special theatrical release. Additionally, drum corps enthusiasts will be able to "count down" the days to the start of the 2008 DCI Summer Tour with exclusive preview features from several top DCI World Class units.

The six featured corps as chosen by the fan voting will be announced to the public on Wednesday, March 26, with tickets going on sale through FathomEvents.com just two days later on Friday, March 28.

During the weekend following the cinema event, the final tallies of the fan judging results will be announced in a special free DCI.org broadcast sponsored by the Drum Corps International Fan Network. More information on this unprecedented Webcast will be available in the future.

Remember: the fun begins next Wednesday, Feb. 27 when fans can choose their favorite six performances from the past three years by visiting DCI.org.
