This photo is of the Cavaliers in the August, 1966 VFW pre-championship parade down Fifth Avenue in New York City. As a fan, I traveled from Michigan by bus (due to an airline strike) to my first major drum corps championship. I returned home on my first airplane ride on a new “Whisperjet,” which was fortunate since noise canceling headphones hadn’t been invented. Days later in the VFW National Finals in Jersey City, N.J., the Cavaliers finished second behind the Troopers.
