In 1979, the Spirit drum line was to conduct a small educational clinic during our tour out to the West Coast. Sadly, the equipment truck was delayed and we had to start without having the drums. Not wanting to disappoint anyone, percussion instructor Tom Float and the snare line came up with an ingenious solution. They borrowed a few desks from the school we were staying at and proceeded to conduct the clinic as “The Spirit of Atlanta Chair-line.”
