Todd Ullrich, a 1983 member of the Garfield Cadets, sent these classic photos.

I took these photos during the prelims of the Key to the Sea Championship in 1983. The equipment truck blew an engine on the way to the show and the corps only had uniforms minus their "shako" hats. The Spirit of Atlanta jumped in and let the corps perform using their drums and bugles.

I was an alternate cymbal player during this season and it gave me the opportunity to take quite a few photos during the year. I thought this one was unique with the snare line using the Spirit of Atlanta drums. I do remember the tom players stating that the drum arrangement was set up differently, however, making the performance that much more challenging.

Thanks, Todd!
