Alums at work
In keeping with our "drum corps alumni" theme of the day, Phantom Regiment board member Greg Newell submitted this: "Drum corps doesn't just operate from Memorial Day to August or evenThanksgiving to August; it's a year-round adventure. The busiest season often is during the fall when the events of the previous season are being finished at the same time plans for the next season are beginning. "This picture was taken by Boston Crusaders board president Dan Greer of my wife, Teresa, and me manning the Phantom Regiment booth at the BOA Grand National Championships in Indianapolis on Nov. 13. The Crusaders and Cavaliers were on either side of us. Glassmen and Blue Devils also had booths. "While our day was long and exhausting (reinforcements took over the following two days), it was a great opportunity to meet prospective members, parents and fans as well as catch up with alumni who stopped by. "In addition, Dan and I spent quite a bit of time chatting about our corps' operations. It's always great talking to people with mutual interests and problems. Though a rivalry is likely to develop on the field between the Crusaders and Regiment -- the corps tied at DCI Finals in 2002 -- I certainly look forward to seeing Dan at a show next summer. Coincidentally, Dan and I marched with our respective corps during the same years in the late 1980s and both now serve our corps as board members." Greg Newell
