On Friday, April 4, Drum Corps International announced that it would have to relocate its 2008 World Championships to the 52,000-seat Memorial Stadium, on the campus of Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington, Ind. How far is Bloomington from Indianapolis? Bloomington is approximately 50 miles from downtown Indianapolis – a little more than a one hour drive.
Why did Drum Corps International try to book its World Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium knowing that the facility was still under construction? Although we knew that there was a possibility that the stadium might not be completed in time for our event, we took the risk of scheduling the event there using the best available information at the time. We had hoped to give our corps members and fans the prestigious experience of being a part of the inaugural event at the new facility.
How big is Indiana University's Memorial Stadium? The 52,000 seat Memorial Stadium seats more than 28,000 on the concert side.
Does Memorial Stadium have accessible seating? Yes. We will be working to ensure a great spectator experience for all of our fans.
When will tickets for 2008 World Championships events in Bloomington go on sale? Information about individual ticket sales for 2008 World Championships events in Bloomington will be available within the next couple of weeks.
Will Drum Corps International be providing transportation from Indianapolis to Bloomington? How much will it cost? Yes, we are currently working with officials from both Indianapolis and Bloomington to create an enjoyable, entertaining and positive experience for our loyal fans. Transportation services from downtown Indianapolis to the Indiana University campus for events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the Championship Week will be available at no charge. I booked a hotel room in downtown Indianapolis. What happens now? Do I have to cancel? We're currently working with representatives from the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association to create options for our fans which will enable them to enjoy all of the excitement of the 2008 World Championships with a minimum of inconvenience. Fans are encouraged to keep their Indianapolis hotel reservations as transportation services from downtown Indianapolis to the Indiana University campus for events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the Championship Week will be available at no charge. Indianapolis overnight accommodations made through the PassKey online system (www.DCI.org/indyhotels) would need to be canceled before July 1 to avoid a $25 charge per room night.
I purchased a FANtastic 5 ticket package a few months ago. What do I need to do to make sure my seating preference is transferred to the new location? Ticket orders for FANtastic 5 packages at Memorial Stadium will be filled in the same order in which they would have been filled at Lucas Oil Stadium. Additional information will be communicated to all FANtastic 5 ticket holders as it becomes available.
