The Chicago suburban Daily Herald recently reported on the high school marching band scene, and how "These days, the best show under the Friday night lights might be wearing spats instead of cleats." Much of the driving influence behind the increasingly entertaining and theatrical programming of marching bands is credited to the influence of Drum Corps International units and their instructors who are often tasked with the program design and instruction of the high school groups.
