In a nearly 13-hour long marathon showdown, 35 World and Open Class drum and bugle corps competed at the DCI World Championship Prelims, Thursday, Aug. 9 at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. Just the second time in DCI history that World and Open Class corps have competed head-to-head, after the scores were tallied, four Open Class corps including the Oregon Crusaders, Blue Devils B, Vanguard Cadets and Spartans had earned a spot in Friday's Semifinals lineup made up of the top 25 corps of 2012. Throughout the Prelims, several corps among the top 12 had swapped positions by the end of the night. Blue Devils continued their winning streak with two days of competition left to go.
