On Jan 21, representatives from Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps learned that some of their instruments and electronic equipment, valued at approximately $25,000, were stolen from a locked storage facility being rented by the of Buena Park, CA-based organization in nearby Santa Fe Springs.

Breaking through the walls of six rental units adjacent to the one which they had rented for themselves, burglars stumbled upon a surprise treasure trove of Impulse property, including two Thump subwoofers, two Mackie powered speakers, a 32 channel Yamaha mixer, three Adams timpani, a djembe, a Remo bass drum and miscellaneous percussion hardware. Realizing that they couldn’t squeeze everything through the walls of the storage facility and into their own rental space, the thieves apparently returned later in the evening, cutting the lock on Impulse’s unit in order to load the larger equipment into their vehicles before fleeing the scene.

Police are currently investigating the robbery.

Impulse is reaching out to their former members, parents, friends and supporters as well as to the larger drum corps community to ask for assistance in recovering from this substantial financial setback. Although the vast majority of the corps property and inventory is stored in a secured location and is fully insured, the gear lost through this theft was not covered, and is posing a significant financial hardship to the organization.

“The current Impulse family will be hit hard by this loss,” said said Corps Director Aaron Zeilinger, who is also an alumnus of the organization. “We were working to sell the older gear being kept in the storage locker in order to support our members and to cover the cost of repairing and replacing some items of current need by the corps. As with all trials, I know the Impulse family will come together and we will make sure our 2019 members will still have an educational, exciting and zany experience this summer, but we would truly appreciate any and all assistance from our friends and supporters.”
