Submitted by the Mandarins: Mandarins conducted a very productive and successful camp over the weekend of Jan. 12-14, despite record cold temperatures in Sacramento, Calif. Warmer weather on Sunday, however, allowed the brass line to spend time outside playing and marching through the corps' 2007 opener, "Call of the Mountain." The brass line is close to fulfilling Mandarins' brass caption head Dan Fong's goal of 60 members, with a couple of tuba and baritone/euphonium spots left to fill.
The percussion section worked on refining technique and continued the audition process. The battery and taiko line will be set at the corps' February camp (Feb. 16-18), while the front ensemble has a couple of keyboard spots to fill. Read more, and listen to an audio clip of the corps' opener on www.mandarins.org.
